Alysian Thomas is the Chief Operating Officer and Staff Attorney for the Sickle Cell Association of Texas Marc Thomas Foundation. Her father, who suffered from sickle cell disease started the agency in 1997 and upon his death at age 46, Alysian has made it her mission to continue her father’s legacy by supporting and advocating for families affected by sickle cell disease. Alysian is a licensed attorney for the state of Texas and has practiced in the fields of family, criminal and contract law. In 2009, Alysian had an exclusive White House Oval Office invitation where she met with former President Barack Obama in his first 100 days in office to discuss the challenges of sickle cell disease. Alysian is a former member of the Texas Sickle Cell Advisory Committee where she served the state of Texas for two years providing recommendations for Texas families affected by sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease and is currently a member on the Texas Sickle Cell Task Force. For the Sickle Cell Association of Texas Marc Thomas Foundation, she oversees strategic programming, expanding organizational funding (including single-handedly securing more than two million dollars in program revenue) and contract compliance.
